2026-01-29 – JEFFERSON, WI – Wenzel Industries is proud to announce that we have earned our Type 7 Federal Firearms License (FFL), which authorizes us to manufacture firearms in the United States. This milestone reflects our long-standing commitment to disciplined, high-integrity manufacturing—and it positions Wenzel to support firearms OEMs with the same precision machining, quality control, and continuous-improvement mindset our customers expect across every industry we serve.

For OEM partners, an FFL signals that a manufacturer is prepared to operate within a strict federal framework designed to protect public safety and ensure traceability. Earning this license reinforces our focus on responsible production, robust documentation, and consistently repeatable processes—so the components we produce perform the way they’re designed to, run after run, fielded by professionals and everyday end users alike.

What is an FFL (and who issues it)?

A Federal Firearms License (FFL) is a U.S. license that authorizes an individual or business to engage in federally regulated firearms activities—such as manufacturing, importing, or dealing—depending on the specific license type. FFLs are issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) under authority of the Gun Control Act, and they must be renewed on a recurring cycle (generally every three years).

FFLs are organized by categories that authorize license holders to buy, deal, collect, import or manufacture (etc.) firearms, ammunition and destructive devices. The Type 7 FFL we have earned permits us to manufacture firearms and their components, NOT ammunition or destructive devices.

Because firearms are heavily regulated, holding the appropriate FFL is a foundational requirement for a company that intends to legally manufacture these products in the United States.

What does it take to earn an FFL?

For firearms OEMs, supplier selection is about about trust. The components inside a firearm must hold tight tolerances, maintain dimensional stability, and perform reliably under real-world conditions. At the same time, OEMs need partners who can support documentation, traceability, and controlled processes consistent with regulated manufacturing expectations.

Wenzel’s approach is built around repeatability and accountability:

  • Process discipline: controlled workflows, documented procedures, and continuous improvement that reduces variation.

  • Quality-first manufacturing: inspection-driven decision-making to verify critical dimensions and functional interfaces.

  • Responsible production culture: safety, compliance, and careful handling built into daily operations—not bolted on after the fact.

This is how you produce components that are made to last, and how you protect the reputation of the OEM brand that puts those components into the market.

Trust Wenzel to safely and responsibly produce high-quality firearms components

Earning our FFL aligns with what Wenzel Industries has always valued: doing things the right way, every time. That means investing in the systems, training, and oversight needed to manufacture firearms components responsibly, while delivering the consistent, high-quality machining that OEMs demand.

If you’re a firearms OEM looking for a U.S.-based precision machining partner focused on reliability, compliance-minded operations, and long-term performance, Wenzel Industries is ready to support your next program.
